Dr. Dovrolis is a bioinformatician with 17 years of work experience in the industry and academia.

He received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Ioannina (2007), his master’s degree in “Translational Research in Molecular Biology & Genetics” from the Dept. of Molecular Biology & Genetics, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece (2016). His PhD titled “Computational analysis of the interactions between the microbiome and mucosal immunological responses as targets for new therapies” was finished in 2019 at the Dept. of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace. Since then, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at the same Department researching “The contribution of bioinformatics in elucidating the role of the human microbiome during viral infections”. He also has received an English Proficiency Diploma from the University of Cambridge (1997)

Dr. Dovrolis has had the position of associate researcher in 6 EU funded & co-funded research projects during which he completed workpackage tasks, co-authored deliverables and authored/presented scientific publications (Dept of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace). His current position at the Individualised Medicine & Pharmacological Research Solutions Center (IMPReS) is his 7th funded research project participation. He also completed internships at the Biomedical Research Foundation, Academy of Athens and the Dept. of Computer Science, University of Ioannina.

Dr. Dovrolis is listed as an author of 30 manuscripts in peer-reviewed international journals (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=zoOndhIAAAAJ&hl=el). He has authored 3 book chapters and is a reviewer in over 15 scientific journals. He is also a guest editor of a special issue in “Frontiers in Systems Biology” titled “Systematic in Silico Metagenomic Studies of Microbiota”. 

He has served as a member of the organizing committee for the “International Workshop on Learning and Education with the Web of Data” for 7 consecutive years and is one of the few non-MD members of the “Greek Group for the study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases” (EOMIFNE) which is part of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO). He is also a member of the International Society of Computational Biology (ISCB) and its Greek branch the Hellenic Bioinformatics (Hbioinfo). 

He has been an invited speaker for 1 undergraduate and 4 postgraduate programs within the Democritus University of Thrace but also in collaboration with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.

His research interests include Bioinformatics, intestinal microbiome, idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases, fibrosis and inflammation, viral infections, cardiovascular disorders,  neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, Transcriptomics (bulk and single cell), 16s rRNA sequencing, Drug repositioning, Telematics, Big Data, and Open Data.
