Marios Simopoulos graduated from the 2nd High School of Arsakeion Private School with the grade "Excellent" and was admitted at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) (currently at the 4th year of study). During the 8th semester and till present he carries out research at the Laboratory of Pharmacology of the Department of Medicine of DUTH and writes a dissertation on "The role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor BDNF in psychoses: Pharmacogenomic and epigenetic extensions" under the supervision of the Professor of Pharmacology, Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicne Mr. Evangelos Manolopoulos.

Marios has attended several conferences such as the 70th Panhellenic Conference of the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2019), the 11th Panhellenic Conference of the Hellenic Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (2020), and has, also, participated in the 7-week online training course on Neurolinguistics from the University of St. Petersburg in Russia (2021).

Among other skills he is proficient in English (Proficiency, ECPE) and has good command of German (level B1).

During his undergraduate studies he worked on the following written assignments: “Antimatter may matter… What is antimatter”, “Inborn and acquired metabolic defects in cancer”, “Memory creation mechanisms in the Hippocampus”, “Mirror Neuron System”, “STED Microscopy”, “Natural products and cancer”.

Since February 2022, Marios Simopoulos is conducting research work as an undergraduate student for the project “Individualised Medicine & Pharmacological Research Solutions Center (IMPReS)” (MIS 5047189) which is implemented under the Action “Support for Regional Excellence”, funded by the Operational Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation” (NSRF 2014–2020).
