Dr. Kareli has a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics (2007) and in 2013 she obtained a PhD from Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace after completing her PhD thesis with title Mutagenicity study in cultured cells from umbilical cord blood and placenta”. Since then, she has worked as postdoctoral researcher in several positions with emphasis in cell biology of cancer, atherosclerosis, vascular biology, and valvular diseases. From 2013 to 2015 she worked in THALIS project. From 2014 to 2015 she was under “ESC Research Grant” from European Society of Cardiology in Laboratory of Translational and Vascular Biology in Mainz University, Germany. 

Currently, Dr. Kareli is a Research Scientist for the project “Individualised Medicine & Pharmacological Research Solutions Center (IMPReS)” (MIS 5047189) which is implemented under the Action “Support for Regional Excellence”, funded by the Operational Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation” (NSRF 2014–2020). Her main research project focuses on cell cultures of drugs of cardiovascular interest.

She has authored 16 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She was responsible for the teaching of the “Genetics” (2013) and “Human Genetics” (2020-2021) in Medical School, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece and Molecular Biology and Genetics, Democritus University of Thrace respectively.

Her current research interests include cell culture techniques in cardiovascular diseases and drugs of cardiovascular interest.
